DIRECTIONS
Direct
my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. Psalm 119:133
We have
accepted the Lord and found forgiveness and salvation. We have been washed in
the blood of Christ and made new. We have become the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
God the Father call us His children. Jesus our Lord upholds us by His power. We
have the Word of God that instructs us on every aspect of life. We have access
to the Father by prayer in the Name of Jesus, the Son. We have churches to
learn and grow and fellow believers for support. We have great and mighty
promises from God for victorious living. We have been set free from the chains
of sin. We have every conceivable provision for a mighty walk with God and a
life defined by victories and blessings. So what’s wrong?
We fail
continuously to follow instructions. Maybe we doubt that God can be trusted at
His word. Maybe we wonder if we are good enough. Maybe we are afraid to try and
fail and look foolish or be disappointed, so its better to not try at all.
Maybe we somewhere deep inside have just gotten used to the sad lives we live.
Maybe; just maybe, we need to stop all
the excuses.
Then the
LORD said to Moses, "How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my
instructions? (Exodus 16:28)
Seems we
are not alone. When it comes to what we know, we will settle for the known
rather than the unknown, even if the known is what we long to be free of.
Anyone know a woman who is being abused but afraid to leave because she fears
more of what may happen to her on her own? How about the severely ill person
who is afraid to seek a doctors care for fear of what it might be? How about
those who hate their jobs or things they do in their lives, but are afraid of
losing a sense of security they have? You are not alone.
The
Hebrews were enslaved by the Egyptians for and cried out to God to be
delivered. God heard their cry and not only came to rescue then, but to show
them and the entire world that He is God. He struck the heart of Egypt and the
very gods they worshipped. He turned the Nile and all the water into blood. He
covered the land with frogs, gnats and flies. He caused the animals to become
diseased and the people to be grow boils on their bodies. He sent thunder and
hail and covered the land with locust and darkness. Finally, He killed the
firstborn of all Egypt; from the firstborn of Pharaoh, to the firstborn of his
servants. Exodus 6-12
God led
the children of Israel out of Egypt and when Pharaoh decided to take revenge
and kill the Hebrews, God parted the Red Sea and allowed the Hebrews to cross,
but drowned the Egyptian army. God provided direction for His people in pillar
of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day. He fed them and gave them water
to drink. He began to guide them to the land that He had promised their
fathers. What was the gratitude of the people?
There
was no water there for the community, so they ganged up on Moses and Aaron.
They attacked Moses: "We wish we'd died when the rest of our brothers died
before GOD. Why did you haul this congregation of GOD out here into this
wilderness to die, people and cattle alike? And why did you take us out of
Egypt in the first place, dragging us into this miserable country? No grain, no
figs, no grapevines, no pomegranates, and now not even any water!"
(Numbers 20:2-5)
Are we
not like these people? We stubbornly refuse to obey God and do things His way
and at the first thought of hardship, we want to run back to our own Egypt.
Many of us are so afraid, we never left or are really trying to leave. Like
children who wish to swim, but wont jump in the water. In John 14:16, Jesus
said, I am the way, the truth and the life. God knows the way, not us. God has
the truth, not us. God gives life, not us. Follow God, not yourself.
A man's
steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?
(Proverbs 20:24)
Your own
ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, This is the way you
should go, whether to the right or to the left. (Isaiah 30:21)
The book
of Proverbs is a wonderful book in the Bible. It is full of Gods wisdom for
daily living. I would encourage each of you to read these often. They are short
phrases with huge potential and meaning. Here are just a few:
A wise
man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain
wise counsel. (Proverbs 1:5)
Trust in
the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all
your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Proverbs
16:25
There is
a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs
16:25
God is
trying to lead you out of your slavery and bondage to the life you once new. He
has given you His fire by night-His word, and His cloud by day-His Spirit;
follow them. All your current situation is going to offer you is what you are
getting right now, nothing more. You are waiting for a miracle and blessing,
but God has already given you the miracle of life and sacrificing His Son for
you and blessed you with forgiveness, salvation and awesome promises.
Re-position yourself to make these promises and blessing work in your life.
Follow the instructions of your God. Do not let fear of the unknown hold you
back. You have a God who can be trusted and is able to do exceedingly well above
and beyond what you can think or imagine!
Be
assured that from the first day we heard of you, we haven't stopped praying for
you, asking God to give you wise minds and spirits attuned to his will, and so
acquire a thorough understanding of the ways in which God works. I pray that
you'll live well for the Master, making Him proud of you as you work hard in
his orchard. As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do
your work. We pray that you'll have the strength to stick it out over the long
haul. Not the grim strength of gritting your teeth, but the glory-strength God
gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy,
thanking the Father who makes us strong enough to take part in everything
bright and beautiful that he has for us. (Colossians 1:9-14)
God
rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He's set us up in the
kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were
in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.
This is
your time! Decide whether you will lie down and die in the wilderness of life
or follow God to your promised land! Despite all the circumstances you may find
yourself in at the present time, you still have the ability to try to the best
of your ability to follow God. Make up your mind today! Every day you wait,
your life is being denied its blessings.
Accept
instruction from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart. (Job 22:22)
Whoever
gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.
God
Bless
